Today

I mostly laid around even tho it was a gorgeous day. I dunno why I do that. I know I miss my girls. And my boy.
My little girl would be proud of me today cause I made cornbread. I used the medium ground cornmeal, some stuff I am not sure what it is, maybe quinoa?, some brown rice flour, maybe some white rice flour, a wee bit of tapioca flour, a pinch of xanthan gum, a dollop of guar gum, baking powder, one egg, safflower oil, canola oil, salt a sprinkle of raw sugar, and vanilla soy milk. I forgot to get the oven all the way hot. Dang. But it came out good. A bit crunchy but good.
Kevin had his with black beans and carrots. I had mine with molasses and maple syrup and butter.
Other thann a wee bit of watering, this blog, book reading, a small bike ride, holding my grand tenant and washing the wool mattress pad, I guess I was pretty chill today.
Now to learn to just enjoy that.
I also picked my chick peas today. Weird. each pod only has one bean in it. So weird. I have a gorgeous cabbage out there. I wanna pick it but if Per is coming I want her to see it.....

Oh, yeah, jazz.
Yesterday we had practice and even the piano player came. We are having a lot of fun in the little jazz ensemble. It is like a dream come true. I am picking up the alto sax pretty well. I kinda sucked on clarinet for some reason yesterday. Ah well. We sure have a lot of fun.

So why disdain?

Hey there, anyone who actually reads my blog,
Why would I name it hummingbird's disdain? Because, altho I love red and purple flowers and indeed there are some out there in my garden, and yes, the hummers do come (not that I care as much as some), surely, they must be disenchanted with the lack of flourishment they encounter. Yes, whilst I lie about, taking baths, eating crunchy things, reading books, and then hurry off to very important errands such as thrift shopping, yard saling, craigslisting and such, my garden lies forgotten. Thirsty and weed overgrown.

I struggle all spring and summer creating a nice garden but when the first hint of the rains come I figure ahhh.... I must be off duty now.

On top of that, Kevin, after twenty years of indifference has suddenly started watering. Or at least he did start. Which helped lull me into the false security of knowing I had backup. And now? Well, it is trial by fire I suppose. The sun being the fire. Luckily, we live in Oregon where that is not so bad...... In fact there are still some tomatoes alive out there. Oh, ok, it is not so bad as all that. But whatever, it gives me a name for the blog.

And the blog gives me something to do besides water. Heh heh.

So what else have I been doing?

Well, campaigning for Obama of late. Yesterday I went out door to door on an assigned route. It was ok, really. Only got one door shut in my face. Well, maybe two. My route included an assisted care home - a giant splendiforous place. I was lost at first and then really came to marvel at how all those old geezers get around! yes, some have electric carts parked outside their doors. But most walk and its a LONG walk, mind you!

I think it is a lovely place to live. Lots of nooks to sit and chat or read. Sun rooms, very beautiful. And it must cost a freaking FORTUNE to live there. I guess I wont plan on it!

I thought maybe I could go get a job running the tiny thrift shop there. Or volunteer to go play cards and such with the folks. but most of them have their own lives...... One tho, a fellow on my list of registered voters I was assigned, was lying in bed doing nothing. He bemoaned the fact his drivers license had been confiscated. For driving the wrong way on a one way street. He told the cop that it never used to be one way so how was he to know? Well, I know it has been one way for at least several years if not MANY years. Then, he said, he failed the test so he could not get another license. Well, from talking with him, I am thrilled that he does not have a license. But the guy needs cheering up. I was on a mission, you know and had to move along. But I had to rip myself from his psyche and I left him there still wallowing. I think I should go back and play cards with him perhaps.

I met another man sitting out front and I was instructed that I could approach folks in passing but could not go to any homes not on my map. so I approached him, of course, being the daughter of an Amway distributor. he too was lacking a drivers license. I believe this man could drive capably. But he could not find his birth certificate. he was born in 1928 and I guess Oregon has a law that you have to show a birth certificate. Why doesnt someone help him get a copy? This is something I could do.

Ok, enough for now. Will tell you about my jazz band adventures soonish.
